At this point the vase is still very hot and must be picked up while wearing special gloves and placed into an annealer. An annealer is a special kiln which reduces the temperature very slowly in order to strengthen the glass and prevent strain, cracking, or color separation. The temperature starts at 950 degrees and slowly cools down to room temperature.
